coterie
A Symphony Of Kin
by N.M. Bassey
Black, white
brown, yellow
green and red but when
we gathered in our den
we became
a tight knit coterie of friends
we shared secrets & jokes
grape juice & oats
we raced snails, wore ponytails
danced under the moon
swam in imaginary seas
we were brightly coloured threads
woven into a magic tapestry
years have passed, lives have changed
But what wouldn't I give
to frolic in the den again?
I close my eyes and I can hear
our laughter pierce the heavens again--
a symphony of kin.
